Sept. 20th--San Diego Union Tribune endorses Rocky Chavez for Mayor of Oceanside!

NEWS FLASH:

. . . Of the two mayoral candidates, we prefer Chavez. We believe he has a better grasp on creating jobs in what is still a bedroom community and he understands what must be done to unclog traffic. The biggest impediment to advancing El Corazon Park, he believes, is traffic.

Chavez has creative ideas on belt tightening and achieving efficiencies in public safety, ideas that will not make him popular with employee unions. In a city where an on-duty police officer was slain because of gangs, Chavez's no-nonsense attitude should make him popular with voters:

“Oceanside does not have an illegal immigration problem. We have a gang problem.”

We endorse Rocky Chavez for mayor."

"The Bridge to Everywhere"
Pacific Street Bridge opened last week . . . and it looks fabulous - big kudos to all who worked on this project!

First 'Candidates Forum' took place at Ocean Hills Country Club! Great set-up and good questions - they even asked opinions on what to do next with 'Tri City Hospital' - the forum was quite polite and respectful as some new candidates began learning their issues.

The 'Rocket Team' is pleased to announce that Rocky Chavez has received the Endorsement from the Republican Party of San Diego County.

We celebrated at Rocket headquarters at Oceanside Blvd. and El Camino Real. Click for Photos...

Leadership for Strong Neighborhoods

In 2002, I was elected to the Oceanside City Council.

The platform I ran on was simple and straightforward: I would not vote to increase your taxes or fees. I would work to put more police on our streets, revitalize downtown and bring new jobs to Oceanside. I kept those promises. In 2006, you honored me by voting for my reelection. With your help, I received the most votes.

I am running for Mayor to make neighborhoods better and stronger.

During my campaign I have been walking door to door in neighborhoods asking a simple question: "What would make your neighborhood an even better place to live?"

Most of the answers revolve around simple things like "fixing that pothole" or "repaving the street" or "fixing the playground equipment in the park".

A few are more challenging but possible: "getting rid of the gangs" or "stop letting them put drug rehab homes in my neighborhood."

All these problems can be solved by a Mayor who puts you first instead of special interests.

Rocky's Pledge to Oceanside

          1. No new taxes or fees.
          2. Hire more Police.
          3. Declare war on all criminal street gangs.
          4. Stop the proliferation of drug rehab homes.
          5. Create stronger neighborhoods.

Deputy Mayor Rocky Chavez has demonstrated exemplary leadership on countless issues of importance to Oceanside. His work on our behalf has made our city a better and safer place to live and work.

Whether it was opposing all new taxes, putting more police on the streets or working to revitalize our downtown, Rocky Chavez has always put action before words.

Now more than ever, we need a leader we can trust to put Oceanside on the path of fiscal responsibility and sound long-range planning. That leader is Rocky Chavez.

Keeping Our Neighborhoods Safe - has always been Rocky Chavez's number one priority. He fought to put more police officers on the streets without increasing our taxes. He will continue to work with others in bringing additional resources into our community to fight crime.

Building a Better Community - Rocky understands that our downtown is immensely important in determining the image of our city. That is why he has worked to bring the right blend of new businesses to our community.

A Higher Quality of Life Sustaining and keeping our beaches clean and safe, building the San Luis River Bike Trail, working for train "quiet zones", improving our parks and reducing traffic congestion - Rocky has worked tirelessly to make our neighborhoods better places to live.
